As rare occurrence has shaped my life, I shape the movement of the dance space

As a physical language expresses the road I have traveled, I express the spectrum of emotion from my heart

As poetic imagery pools in the kinetic landscapes of my work, I remember my journey through metaphor

Knowing how to artfully and gracefully fall through space, one becomes more aware of the value of the stillness of standing tall. When we honor the rising and falling energy of our center line we are able to appreciate the magnitude of place. Simplicity of standing is the dynamic springboard for expressing the poetic heart.

There is a language lost inside the chaos of contradictory images of space and time. We are a drift in a time of dissolution. Floating aimlessly amidst the sea of “noise” that drowns out the voice of spirit and truth for the survival of the human spirit. Now, more than ever, is there a need for the investigation and cultivation of the quiet. A pressing need to find the distilled reason for being. I can think of no better time than the present to question personal behavior and claim a responsibility for ourselves and our spirit. No better time to accept our own role as the leader and director of our life and lively hood. It is too late for blame. It is too late to wait around for someone or something to bail us out. It is we who should help ourselves in order to help those we love, along with the things we love to do, thus allowing us to fulfill our spirit and bring us joy. It is important to embark on a journey in which we meander our personal labyrinth to sift through the chaos. It is important for us to press what does not matter away from the center of our beings. Chaos has cluttered the space around us and the space within us is collapsing. Fill the space within with an energy and light that will allow for an expansion of the spirit. Allow the space to be a sanctuary and sacred space for you to be; safe and flowing with the freedom for the mind and central nervous system to speak clearly to the body for healing and well-being. As we create space within, the space without will be created. When we find the space to live, we will find the space to listen. When we find the time to listen, we will hear the lost voice of our soul and start living the life that is ours. Finally we will find freedom to live the life that our spirit has been trying to live since the day we were born. This is freedom. This is the desire of the heart.

Accepting the Right to Wave the Wand

Perhaps it is time to acknowledge once again the vibrations of my being. I admitted to myself that I am a healer and that in doing so I accepted myself as a being healing both body and soul through the art of dance. This past year has been transformative in ways that I could not have possibly imagined. Ironically, one of the biggest people who have transformed from this shift in conscious acceptance has been me.

The year has been a journey, but the year is now in the past and I stand at a present fork in the road. The choice is to move forward adding to or to move around and circle back. As I face this choice, I realize I must move forward. To accept myself, as just a healer is not the complete fully vibrational being I am. I know there is much missing; much left undone and undiscovered.

What is speaking to me in this moment of choosing is the creative heart. I have been very prolific this year, yes. However, I have not fully realized the wealth of this stream. I have waded, but I have not immersed myself fully and let the currents of this universal creative flow carry me. The choice to make is to travel the path of the river flowing towards the vast ocean of creative wonder and ultimately creative surrender.

I realize that being a healer and acknowledging myself and my gifts in this arena was more a journey of healing myself. I am figuring that out now and will continue to heal others and myself through movement as I add in another claim. I was given a name not too long ago that brought much light and laughter but in really looking at it, the universe is nudging me to accept my name in the role at which I need to embrace. Now, I have chosen to absorb the identity that was gently whispered making the two parts of my being whole.

The path I choose is to float with faith as a healing wizard. An enchanted being healing and crating with magic and wonder. It is time to be bold in my artistic statements letting the vision create transformative enchanted landscapes by the light of the stars. This is but a development of a healer and an expansion of the creative voice no longer fearing the clamoring of the doubtful and fearful crowd.

What magic will be revealed as the healing and kinetic spells are cast? This is the right of waving the creative wand.

Suspended points in space framing the blue

Shaping the circumference

The relationship of the internal referencing the vast

Experiencing the divine

It is not for the body to know more than it feels

Simplicity in the act of a movement

Bringing the mind into consciousness

Seeing things as they are

Comprehending limitless possibilities

Presented by potential space

It is not a mistake that we move to be moved

Unconditional joy in being

I AM

I am a maker of dance, both the ephemeral imagery in space as well as the physical beings who transcribe them. The shape of the space in which the physical reality of a work exists is where I feel at home in my skin. It is this transparency and manifestation of concept that thrills me most.

I like to speak with movement and express the desires of my heart through the physical articulation of bone and blood. As the body traces space, hitting point by point the architectural blue prints of choreography, the soul revels in ecstasy as it etches each work.

I like to listen to the world with my feet hearing the subtle churning and shifting of its rotation and the chaos of its populations. When the foot becomes receiver, the heart becomes the poet allowing for the majesty of imagery to create the kinetic hologram of dance.

I am a maker of dance. I am a shaper of space. I am a poet of kinetic proportions penning movement into magic and mystery.

Bridging the River of Timelessness

With each step, we are pushed upwards towards the heavens. With each breath, heaven absorbs us. We live in a constant state of rise and fall, evolution and demise as well as continual transformation. This is what creates the movement that guides us all towards the ultimate freedom of transcendence.

In these quiet, contemplative steps, we must be mindful of the very moments we inhabit. These moments help us to understand the magnitude of our being in order to recognize the bridges needed to cross the river of timelessness.

There needs to be no fear for what is to come. That which is our present, is the angel that keeps us safe. In this present moment of awareness, we understand all things as time ceases to have importance. It is this moment that the universe allows you to glimpse the radiant glory of timelessness itself. And because of this insight, you know, in the deepest parts of your spirit, that there is nothing to fear for you are the light of the universe and the universe is the light of you.

I know there is pain and suffering in the world. I know that there is much to be shifted and changed in all of our individual and collective lives. I know this. I acknowledge the frail, imperfect and vulnerable lines we walk and that which surrounds us. However, at this moment, all I know is bliss. All I see is beauty. All there is is joy.

I choose, at this moment to see, welcome and embrace what is often seldom seen or folded into our lives. Instead of giving in, I give out. Instead of giving up, I give within. I see between the lines. I listen to the parts of the harmony that allow the melody to be remembered. It is in these unusual places that perfect of moments lives. The most beautiful and sacred magical moments live here.

At this moment I shut my eyes and give thanks for all that is here. This is my moment of gratitude; my moment to change the rest of my life by accepting this life as the most beautiful of all things I could be living. Right here. Right now. This moment. This life. This is the joy.

As I watched the students of DSA move through 7 minutes of choreography that we have systematically developed over three days, I realized how lucky I am to be able to be having these experiences as a choreographer, teacher and dancer. It is an honor to be in my position of sharing what it is I have come to know for myself, and then share that in the process of making a new work. I consider myself very fortunate to have these experiences and opportunities.

I have been doing this at DSA for 7 years now. It has been a ever growing and developing event that has become what it is today. Amaranth comes out and sets three new pieces on the students along with presenting several works in a shared culminating concert at the end of our residency. This year we have also folded in a few works of our great friends, The Island Moving Company. So here we are, in a place of sharing and enhance that I could not have imagined 7 years ago.

What has become apparent is the honesty and integrity through the sharing and building of new work which in turn opens a window of compassion and understanding for ultimate learning experiences. This learning experience is not just happening for the students, but it is also happening for choreographers and dancers alike.

I realized for myself that my craftsmanship as a dance maker and teacher has grown and blossomed because of this exchange as well. Artists need to create a practice of making what they make and doing what they do. Denver has been a part of my practice and the energies of the students through all of the works that I have made here have been a part of my growth and development. I am grateful for the opportunity to be here and making work acknowledging that I too am growing alongside my dancers moving towards the kind of artists we all aspire to be, working in the energies of our spirits making the kind of work that speaks from our hearts.

Thank you Denver School of the Arts for opening your lives to Amaranth. We are grateful and look forward to whatever our paths unfold for us.
